Overview

At What's The Wifi, we respect your right to control your personal data. This policy explains how you can request deletion of your data and account, what gets deleted, and what may be retained for legal or business purposes.

How to Delete Your Account

You can request account deletion through two methods:

Method 1: In-App Deletion (Recommended)

  1. Open the What's The Wifi app
  2. Navigate to your Profile tab
  3. Tap the gear icon in the top right to open Settings
  4. Scroll to the "Danger Zone" section
  5. Tap "Delete Account"
  6. Type "DELETE" to confirm (this prevents accidental deletions)
  7. Tap the confirmation button to permanently delete your account

Method 2: Email Request

If you prefer or cannot access the app, you can email us directly:

Subject: Account Deletion Request
Include: Your registered email address and name

We will verify your identity and process your request within 3-5 business days.

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Account Information: Email, password, authentication tokens
  • Profile Data: Name, bio, role, industry, skills, company, location, interests, profile picture
  • Your Reviews: All venue reviews and ratings you've posted
  • Check-ins: Your check-in history and activity
  • Favorites: Your saved/favorited venues
  • Connections: Your professional connections and networking data
  • Messages: All direct messages sent and received
  • Community Content: Your community posts, threads, and replies
  • Personal Links: LinkedIn, website, and social links
  • Preferences: App settings and preferences
  • Uploaded Files: Profile pictures stored in our system

What May Be Retained

Some data may be retained for legal, security, or business purposes:

Legal and Compliance

  • Transaction records required by law
  • Records of Terms of Service violations
  • Data subject to legal holds or investigations

Aggregated Data

We may retain anonymized, aggregated data for analytics and improvement purposes. This data cannot be used to identify you.

Backup Systems

Data in backup systems may persist for up to 90 days before being permanently purged from all systems.

Communications

Support tickets, emails, and other communications with our team may be retained for record-keeping purposes.

Deletion Timeline

Our deletion process follows this timeline:

  • Immediate: Account is deactivated and you are logged out
  • Within 24 hours: Profile and public-facing content removed from the app
  • Within 7 days: Personal data deleted from primary databases
  • Within 30 days: Data deleted from all active systems and logs
  • Within 90 days: Data purged from backup systems

Note: Once deletion is initiated, it cannot be reversed. Create a backup of any data you wish to keep before deleting your account.

Data Export

Before deleting your account, you may request a copy of your data. Contact us at support@whatsthewifi.io with subject "Data Export Request". We will provide your data in a machine-readable format within 30 days.

Alternative: Account Deactivation

If you're not ready for permanent deletion, you can temporarily deactivate your account by contacting us. Deactivation:

  • Hides your profile from other users
  • Preserves your data for potential reactivation
  • Can be reversed within 90 days
  • After 90 days of inactivity, account may be permanently deleted

Impact on Other Users

When you delete your account:

  • Your profile will no longer be visible
  • Your reviews and ratings will be removed
  • Your check-ins will be deleted from venue activity feeds
  • Your connections will be removed and messages deleted
  • Your community posts and threads will be deleted
  • Other users will not be able to view your past content
